Satellite remote sensing has become one of the most important techniques for observation of the global
atmosphere. Satellite remote sensing has provided major advances in understanding the weather, air quality and climate. There has been growing interest among researchers & scientific community on the use of satellite data for the study of various atmospheric events like monsoon, fog, tropical cyclone and air pollution episodes. The course will provide an overview on retrieval of atmospheric parameters from satellite observations, fog monitoring, rainfall monitoring using VIS/IR and MW sensors, types of air pollutants, air pollution episodes, monitoring of air pollution plume, tracking of tropical cyclone etc. The course is therefore of special interest for the professionals, researchers and students interested in learning utility of satellite observations in atmospheric studies.
Course Curriculum:
Overview on retrieval techniques of atmospheric parameters using satellite data:
- Satellite monitoring of Rainfall from VIS/IR and MW sensors.
- Satellite Remote Sensing for fog retrieval and monitoring.
- Application of Satellite observations for tropical cyclone monitoring.
- Satellite monitoring of particulate matter.
- Monitoring of gaseous air pollutants from satellite observations.
Who can Apply?
- The candidates who want to participate in the course should be a student of final year undergraduate course or postgraduate course (any year).
- Technical/Scientific Staff of Central/State Government/Faculty/Researchers at University/Institutions are also eligible to apply for this course. Applications of participants have to be duly sponsored by university/institute and forwarded through coordinators from respective centres.
- The course is designed for professionals,students/researchers from Central/State Govt./Universities/Private Organizations/NGO engaged in atmospheric & environmental science.
